GWANGJU FORUM on the FUTURE of HUMAN RIGHTS in ASIA
Gwangju, Korea
14:00-18:00 on 16 May 2015
The Gwangju Forum on the Future of Human Rights in Asia is co-organized by ADN and FORUM-ASIA, in partnership with May 18 Foundation. The Forum will be held in Gwangju from 14:00-18:00 on 16 May (Saturday) 2015 as part of the Gwangju Asia Forum (GAF) on 16-18 May 2015 hosted by May 18 Foundation.
The Forum aims to reflect on human rights and democracy in the past decades and identify emerging trends and issues in socio-political-economic contexts in Asia.
The Forum is composed of two parts: the first session will highlight the learning from the past decades; the second session will discuss how to identify emerging challenges and opportunities to develop a collective vision. Each session includes the open floor discussion with all participants after the presentation and discussion by the panelists.
The outcome of the Forum will be used as one of the inputs for the General Assembly of FORUM-ASIA in January 2016 and a joint initiative to develop the People’s Charter on Human Rights and Democracy as a tool to articulate the people’s vision and strategies for human rights and democracy movement in Asia. The Charter is expected to be adopted in 2018 during the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
The Gwangju Asia Forum (GAF) is an annual event to commemorate the spirit of May 18 Democratic Movement in 1980. The GAF offers a space for the activists to share their information and experiences in order to strengthen the solidarity in the region of Asia.
