International Steering Committee of Civil Society Pillar
of the Community of Democracies (CD)
- New York, September 28, 2015
On September 28, in the attendance of civil society actors from all over the world, the newly reformed Civil Society Pillar of the International Steering Committee of Community of Democracies (ISC-CD) held its meeting in New York. The meeting aimed to discuss the strategies, priorities and roles of the ISC in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals for the next two years of activities at the Community of Democracies (CD). The ISC-CD is a global network of civil society leaders committed to advancing democracy and human rights through the CD.
Mr. Anselmo Lee, co-convener of the Asia Democracy Network (ADN), attended to the meeting as a representative of ADN. ADN’s role in defending space for civil society and democracy in Asia through partnership has been increasingly important at various international fora’s. For the era of the post 2015 development agenda, it is critical to give appropriate attention to democracy issues and take actions accordingly.
The meeting was productive in ways for civil society actors like ADN to consult with inter-governmental organizations like the CD and its relevant bodies (e.g., Governing Council of Community of Democracies) and to contribute to the discussions to bring change.
