Bali, Indonesia – On August 20, 2016 in Bali, Indonesia the Asia Democracy Network launched an initiative to enhance and accelerate democracy promotion in Asia through the strengthening of democratic institution building on the national level through a regional coalition of democratic countries. The first regional consultation was held in Bali, Indonesia in the presence of regional stakeholders as well as Indonesian civil society organizations. At the Bali consultation, initial discussions on the state of democracy in Asia were had in addition to assessing the current democracy promotion and assistance mechanisms in the region. From there, we were able to start building a strategy on how a coalition of democratic countries can be established and strengthened to promote democracy in Asia.
