[ADN Statement] MAYDAY – PROTECTING LABOR RIGHTS PROMOTES HUMAN RIGHTS AND DEMOCRACY

MAYDAY – PROTECTING LABOR RIGHTS PROMOTES HUMAN RIGHTS AND DEMOCRACY

Bangkok, May 1, 2018—In the occasion of May Day – International Workers’ Day, the Asia democracy Network stands in solidarity and pay tribute to all laborers and the working classes that is the backbone to the foundation of a society. ADN supports and recognizes the importance of the international labor movement to protect laborers from harsh working conditions and ensure that workers have limits on their workday, paid minimum wage, have the rights to organize, and enjoy social security.

Unfortunately,  labor in Asian countries remains highly vulnerable due to the lack of protection and non-fulfillment of their rights through non-existent or weak government policies. Labor rights are mandated by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ADN will continue to advocate and defend labor rights through these international platforms through democracy promotion.

Through solidarity and unity, ADN will stand with the labor movement to foster democracy in Asia together.
