The Asia Democracy Network is a regional organization of more than 300 civil society groups working to advance the democratization of governance in Asia.

adn priorities

The Asia Democracy Network (ADN) is active in more than 40 countries in Asia. Our core values are to promote and practice the principles of democracy through the development of inclusive governance, advancement of human rights, equality and inclusivity, prevention of discrimination, human security, promotion of free, fair and meaningful elections, democracy education, & press freedom and responsibility. Our main priorities towards achieving these core values are framed through the following main priorities of the ADN.

Democratic Unity and Solidarity
We aim to strengthen democratic unity and solidarity to move forward together in strength to complement and support democracy advocates, civil society, and like-minded governments.

Next Generation Democracy Advocates
We aim to cultivate the next generation of democracy advocates, as it is vital in sustaining the movement in the long term and bring forth the next generation of democracy leaders.

Strengthening Quality Local Democracy
ADN is involved in various frameworks and themes of democracy to improve and strengthen the quality of democracy. We believe that the quality of democracy starts at the local level and must be a join effort between local authorities and the local community. ADN strives to work with local actors to bring them together and work on promoting local democracy.

what we do

The Asia Democracy Network’s mode of activities to achieve our core values and priorities is diverse in range and methodologies. However, our main modes of activities can be summarized into the following:

Building a Platform and Strengthening Solidarity
Our network members are working tirelessly on improving human rights and progressing democracy, as a regional network organization we do not look to duplicate the already ongoing efforts of the region but to identify the gaps and break down silos of our members to bring synergy and coordination to all of our efforts towards our main core values. ADN strives to build these platforms for democracy advocates to gather to spark these synergies and cooperation breaking down thematic and generational silos.

Capacity Building
We also focus on providing training and education for the general public on democracy and human rights to create a fundamental culture of awareness of our rights. We also aim to provide spaces of learning for civil society organizations to gain the skills to be self resilient.

Advocacy Campaigns
We aim to re-imagine democracy that is relevant and relatable to Asia’s narrative. Democracy is not a culture of a certain region of the world, rather it is universal. Therefore, we are committed to promote Asia’s democracy narrative and reclaim our rightful civic space and democratic values.
